Trekking to the Indigenous Village of Gotsezhy
The Indigenous Community Gotsezhy, formerly known as “Elecanto”, is a small Indigenous Wiwa village embedded in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta at 450 meters above sea level that houses approximately more than 50 Wiwa families, the region is crossed by a river that It has the name of the town “Elecanto”. Considered as a cultural, educational, administrative and political center of the Wiwa Village of the Magdalena Department.
This Indigenous Village was founded in the year of 1986 by the spiritual leader Mamo Ramón Gil Barro of the Wiwa ethnic group, a community belonging to one of the four Indigenous groups of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The spiritual leader (Mamo) Ade Ramón came from the department of La Guajira, and at the direction of other leaders (Mamos) and consultations with traditional and spiritual authorities, he arrived in the Guachaca basin with the purpose of forming a new community Indigenous, under the guidance of him.
At the moment this basin belongs to the territory Wiwa of the department of the Magdalena and represents almost 10% of the totality of the Wiwa Village of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
From the decade of the 80, after being founded the Indigenous Community of Gotsezhy, other populated centers were created in parallel, which are called Wimake, Kalabanga and Toleizhy the latter is located at 100 meters above sea level, about 10 minutes from the corregimiento of Guachaca, currently Toleizhy is a place for the formations of new leaders and Mamos of the Wiwa village. And it has more than 8 houses for the Mamos and leaders that are formed there.

Trekking to the Indigenous Village of Gotsezhy
Day 1 - Departure
We leave at approximately 8:00 a.m. from the Wiwa Tours main office in Santa Marta, in a 4 × 4 vehicle, bound for the Gotsezhy Indigenous Community. We will be arriving at about 9:30 am at the village of Guachaca, where we will begin the trekking of approximately two hours to Gotsezhy Refuge. We arrive to the Indigenous Community of Gotsezhy, where we will take a break and settle, and then interact with the Wiwa community that inhabits this region. After that it is time to take a traditional lunch with the Indigenous Community, rest and then visit the surroundings of Gotsezhy, interacting with the culture and traditions of the indigenous Wiwa, natives of the region, we will also enjoy a refreshing bath at Guachaca River and in the enchanted waterfall Matuna. At approximately 17:00 p.m. we meet and chat with the indigenous guide about the customs and cultural traditions, 2 hours later we will be resting until the next day.
Day 2 - Indigenous Community Gotsezhy
The day starts getting up early to have breakfast, and immediately we will visit ancestral and cultural places, with talks and exhibition of handicrafts typical of the Wiwa. Around noon we will have lunch, we rest and then get ready and start the trek down to Guachaca, where the 4 × 4 vehicle will be waiting for taking us back to the city of Santa Marta at about 4:00 p.m.

Important Information for the Excursion to Gotsezhy Refuge
During this Trek to Gotsezhy Refuge you must respect the privacy of the Indigenous. We must not enter into their rooms or take pictures of them or their belongings without first asking them permission or talking with the guide to indicate what the protocol to follow is.
Carry only the essentials, since weight is a determining factor when walking, make sure you are in good physical condition, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages the day before and take back with you all trash to Santa Marta.
Do not damage natural or cultural assets. In the Gotsezhy Refuge and during the tour there is no mobile phone signal, so notify your family and friends that you can only get in touch with them once you return from your trekking experience.
During the day the weather is hot and humid, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes, shirts and walking shorts; during the night the temperature drops to 14 C approximately and there are a lot of mosquitoes and other insects, it is important to wear long pants and long sleeves shirts to sleep and to use insect repellent.

|To book this tour per person, a deposit of 20% of the total value of the tour is required, through our web payment gateway, the remaining 80% must be canceled at our Wiwa Tours office, the same day we leave for The Indigenous Community of Gotsezhy.|
|As a fundamental requirement to book Tour to the Indigenous Community Gotsezhy, you must present your personal ID and passport in case of being a foreigner at our Wiwa Tour main office. It is not necessary to carry the identity document the day we leave for the tour. Just take at copy of it.|
