Lost City Trek Colombia, Santa Marta

Day 1

The Excursion to the Lost City begins in the main office of Wiwa Tours at 8:30 am, The trip lasts approximately 2 hours from the city of Santa Marta, in a 4 × 4 truck that will take you to the mamey sector (Machete Pelao), where they will take lunch and the first indications of the indigenous guide to then start with the lost city tour, cataloged as the best Trek in South America.

They begin with a walk along 7.6 km rural trails, until reaching the first camp (Cabin, Adán or Cabin, Alfredo) in this rural region we will be 450 meters above sea level, here we will spend our first night and we will rest from this first day of hiking It is demanding, we recommend to receive instructions from the indigenous guide attentively, during the tour we will enjoy a crystal clear river where we will take a refreshing bath and we will be able to observe the great richness of the flora and fauna of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Some travelers complete the Trekking in 3 hours, others in 5 hours, everything depends on your physical condition and the climatic conditions of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Day 2

The day requires a Trek of 14.7 km (approximately 10 hours), from the first camp to the second camp (Cabin Paso Lorenzo or Cabin Paraíso Teyuna), Indigenous Community located at an altitude of 830 meters above sea level, here we will be very close to The Lost City Tayrona, Sacred City for native indigenous. During this tour you will pass very close to the Mutanzhi Indigenous Community, here you will appreciate the harmony that indigenous peoples have with nature, they will also observe, much of the fauna and flora of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. In the afternoon you can relax and take a refreshing swim in a river with crystal clear waters. At night, the Indigenous guide will tell you more about The Lost City Teyuna and its sacred meaning for the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, and will also share with us about the history and customs of their community and the region.

Day 3

They begin the day motivated by knowing the ancient indigenous city, breakfast very early and then depart for The Lost City, during this journey of about 1 km to the sacred city, climb by 1200 stone steps built by the Ancient Tayrona, here will be a height of 1200 masl, accompanied by the Indigenous Guide, will make the Lost City Tour knowing the different indigenous terraces and sacred sites, taking photographs, enjoying the magical moment of this indigenous architecture, at approximately 11:00 am, they will return to the camp for lunch and immediately organize the suitcase, to start with the return Trek of 9.6 km (5 hours approximately) until you reach the camp (Wiwa Cabin), Wiwa Indigenous Community where they will have dinner, rest and spend the night.

Day 4

On the last day of adventure, the travelers take breakfast, then start with the return walk of approximately 12.7 km until reaching the point where everything started (The Mamey), during the descent they will have more time to take pictures and enjoy of a refreshing bath in the river.

Being at Machete Pelao, they will take lunch and immediately board the Jeep 4 × 4, which will return them to the city of Santa Marta where they will arrive around 4:00 pm, having enjoyed an enriching and new experience in the magical Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta.

Important Information for the Trip to Lost City


During this Lost City Trek 4 days you must respect the privacy of the Indigenous. We must not enter into their rooms or take pictures of them or their belongings without first asking them permission or talking with the guide to indicate what the protocol to follow is.

Carry only the essentials, since weight is a determining factor when walking, make sure you are in good physical condition, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages the day before and take back with you all trash to Santa Marta.

Do not damage natural or cultural assets. In The Lost City and during the tour there is no mobile phone signal, so notify your family and friends that you can only get in touch with them once you return from your trekking experience.

During the day the weather is hot and humid, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes, shirts and walking shorts; during the night the temperature drops to 14 C approximately and there are a lot of mosquitoes and other insects, it is important to wear long pants and long sleeves shirts to sleep and to use insect repellent.

To book this tour per person, a deposit of 10% of the total value of the tour is required, through our web payment gateway, the remaining 90% must be canceled at our Wiwa Tours office, the same day we leave for The Lost City.
As a fundamental requirement to book Lost City Trek, you must present your personal ID and passport in case of being a foreigner at our Wiwa Tour main office. It is not necessary to carry the identity document the day we leave for the tour. Just take at copy of it.
To cancel or modify a confirmed reservation, you must contact us 24 hours before the starting date of the Tour, during working hours.
Once The Lost City Tour begins, no refund of any kind will be made.
