This trek to the Lost City was designed with the purpose of allowing tourists to enjoy trekking in Colombia and also to get to know the indigenous culture, thus enjoying a unique experience with Indigenous Tourism.

During this trek you will have to travel through mountainous roads and jungle trails to get to know the Lost City Colombia and the most beautiful landscapes and scenery of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
In this adventure, throughout the trek, the indigenous guide has a close connection with nature, you will learn about the worldview of the indigenous people and how they live in harmony with mother earth.

IMPORTANT You can only reserve this new 5-day trek to the Lost City Tayrona by making a deposit of $66 USD, which corresponds to 10% of the total value of the tour ($660 USD).
To be able to do the trekking, we need at least two adventurers with a reservation for the date of the tour, please contact our advisors to check availability.
The 4-day tour to the Lost City is the trekking option most booked by travelers.
The camps, which are the places where they will have lodging and food, belong to the peasant and indigenous communities of the region, it must be taken into account that they are robust and geographically difficult to access, without the comforts that we have on a daily basis.
Accommodation in the community of Gotsezhy is in beds, but the route that segment the cabins on the trail Lost City Tour Colombia is 70% Hammocks – 30% Beds, the accommodation depends directly on the season and the demand of tourists who occupy that camp.
Keep in mind that the Lost City Trekking in Colombia is an adventure tour through trails surrounded by jungle, typical of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, which involves risks and constant physical activity.

1

Day 1

The tour starts in the city of Santa Marta, tourists travel in a 4×4 van or Jeep to the village of Guachaca, where it begins a new route along a dirt road of approximately one hour to reach the town of Gotsezhy Indigenous Village (Wiwa Indigenous Community), this trip takes about one hour, 15 km uphill to the indigenous village.
This village is the starting point of a 20-minute ecological hike to the Gotsezhy Refuge, where you will observe the indigenous tourism in detail, you will spend the first day of your adventure in this place, here you will have accommodation with lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day.
The group will have a Chef, who will be a Wiwa indigenous woman who will receive the group in the hut to provide a restaurant service typical of the indigenous people.
Travelers have the opportunity to discover a unique site in the jungle of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, called the Matuna Waterfall, one of the hidden wonders offered by this place.
While at the camp they will have the opportunity to see, learn and listen to one of the most meaningful talks for them, which is the process of weaving, painting and making the different handicrafts that they teach from generation to generation.
Therefore, the native guide of the village will teach the plant called Maguey and its extraction process of fique, raw material to make their handicrafts.
The process is very simple, they use their own tools of their culture to extract the fiber from the Maguey, this process is unique and is taught to each child in their process to adult in the evening, in a unique place they gather to share in front of a bonfire, The Wiwa indigenous guide will explain their culture, stories, customs and traditions of the indigenous community.
You will spend the first night in this fascinating community and sleep peacefully in a bed or in a comfortable hammock with a mosquito net and blankets and pillow provided.

Day 2

In the morning after breakfast, the travelers will be transferred from Gotsezhy to the vehicle that transported them from Santa Marta, this time to the village of El Mamey.
The trip in the vehicle will take about 3 hours leaving from approximately 9 am until arriving at Mamey, the point where the trek to the Lost City begins.
The route will be approximately 8.5 km, during this first day of hiking, passing through some viewpoints where you can observe the Caribbean Sea and the indigenous settlement, surrounded by a unique mix of fauna and flora, and then reach the camp Vista Hermosa Cabin.
This camp is 450 meters above sea level, and there will be lodging with dinner and breakfast the following day. The natural scenery in the afternoon is beautiful and a cup of coffee will be the best option. The indigenous guide will explain about the customs and cultural traditions of the area before the group rests.

Day 3

After an early breakfast, the group continues with the trekking of approximately 24 km from the camp. Vista Hermosa hut taking advantage of the coolness of the morning passing by the Wiwa hut camp where they will have lunch and continue on a great hike through jungle, river and mountain trails to finally arrive at the camp. Cabaña Paso Lorenzo, where you will have rest and lodging. This indigenous cabin is located at 830 meters above sea level. the Lost City, sacred city of the ancient Tayronas.
During this tour you will observe a good part of the nature and the great mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. In the afternoon there will be time to enjoy the place and a refreshing swim in the river, in the evening, after lunch, the guide will explain in detail about the itinerary in the Lost City.

Day 4

The trek, which is approximately one kilometer long, begins very early in the morning to reach the first stone steps of the Lost City, the explorers observe the architecture and the first terraces of these archaeological ruins of Teyuna. At this point, everyone waits for the rest of the group to join them before continuing.
The tour inside the Lost City Teyuna will last approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, during which time travelers will learn about the history and culture of this ancient indigenous civilization that inhabited for many years in what is now known as the archaeological ruins of the Lost City Tayrona.

During the time you are there, you will be able to enjoy the magnificent scenery and take excellent photographs. After the tour you will return to Paso Lorenzo camp, a cabin where you will have lunch, rest and then continue with the descent to the Wiwa Cabin camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 5

On the last day of the trekking in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the group has an early breakfast, then continue with the descent from this camp to the rural community of El Mamey, this return trek will be approximately 12 km long.

In El Mamey, they have a delicious lunch typical of the region, then they will leave for the city of Santa Marta, in the vehicle that transported them, arriving where it all began at about 4:00 pm, approximately. The vehicle will drop you off at the Wiwa Tour main office, where you can say goodbye to the indigenous guide and the fantastic experience.

Important Information about the Lost City Tour Colombia

During this 5-day trek to the Lost City, you must respect the privacy and culture of the indigenous people. We should not enter their huts, nor take photographs of them or their belongings, without first informing the indigenous guide of the protocol to be followed.

Carry only the essentials in your suitcase, since weight is a determining factor when walking long distances, make sure you are in good physical condition, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages the day before and try to return all garbage to Santa Marta.

Not damage natural or cultural assets in the lost City. There is no cell phone signal during the tour, so please advise your family and friends that you will only be able to communicate with them once you return from your experience.

During the day the weather is hot and humid, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes, T-shirts and shorts for walking; During the night the temperature drops to approximately 14 °C and there is a greater presence of mosquitoes and other insects, it is important to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts to sleep and use insect repellent.

Reservation Policies

Only this 5-day trek to the Lost City can be booked. By performing a deposit of ($66 USD) corresponding to 10% of the total value of the tour ($660 USD) through our web payment gateway, the remaining 90% ($594 USD) must be paid at the Wiwa Tours office, the same day we leave for the Lost City Trek.
The identity document is a fundamental requirement to reserve the Trekking to the Lost City Santa Marta, for nationals, a copy of the personal identification card or passport in case of being a foreigner. For the day we go out on the tour, it is not necessary to bring your identity document, at least bring a copy of it.
To cancel or modify a confirmed reservation, you must contact us 48 hours before the start of the Tour, during business hours.
Once the trekking to the Lost City Colombia has started, no reimbursement of any kind will be made.
