Activities to do in the Gotsezhy Santa Marta Refuge

Day 1: Tour to Gotsezhy

The tour starts at approximately 6:00 am in Santa Marta, from the main office of Wiwa Tours, in a 4 × 4 truck.
After all the travelers are on board the 4 × 4 vehicle, we head towards the village of Guachaca.
From this point, a new route begins on an uncovered road until reaching the Wiwa Indigenous Community call Gotsezhy, the tour in the van will last approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes from Santa Marta.
At approximately 9:00 am they will be arriving at the Gotsezhy village where all travelers get ready to start a small ecological walk.
Here you will observe a lot of Wiwa Indigenous living in their community, here they will observe the school of the village and numerous houses (Bohíos Indígenas).
The Ecological Trek It will last approximately 20 minutes (1 Km) until we reach our destination, Wiwa Gotsezhy Shelter, a small indigenous community made up of several families who were trained in tourism to protect their culture from the impact that tourism generates.
MAMO is the spiritual leader of Gotsezhy, he will be welcoming them and with him, they will visit some ancestral and cultural places in the company of the indigenous guide, who will give them spiritual talks.
Being in this Wiwa community they will appreciate the natural settings of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta The indigenous people will make you feel at home, they are all very friendly and helpful, they will show you how they have lived together for many years in harmony with nature.
They rest for a while in the hammocks and then undertake an ecological walk along paths full of vegetation and go to enjoy a refreshing swim in the Matuna ancestral waterfall.
After enjoying for more than an hour these crystalline waters of the Matuna waterfall, we return to Gotsezhy to take some photographs with the Mamo and the indigenous families that live there.
At approximately 12:00 pm, they will have lunch prepared only by the Wiwas women, delicious indigenous gastronomy of this town.
The indigenous guide It will give an explanation of the Maguey process and the extraction of the fique, raw material in the elaboration of fabrics and backpacks.
After the Wiwas women they will give an exhibition of handicrafts typical of the Wiwa culture, made with the fique that the indigenous men extract from the Maguey.
At the end of the day, they will walk back to the Gotsezhy Village where the 4 × 4 Vehicle will be waiting for them to take them back to the City of Santa Marta.

Important Information of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Tour

During this Gotsezhy Refuge Tour, they must respect the privacy and culture of the indigenous Wiwa. We should not enter their huts, or take photographs of them or their belongings, without first informing the indigenous guide to request the proper permission.

Carry only the essentials in your suitcase, since weight is a determining factor when walking long distances, make sure you are in good physical condition, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages the day before and try to return all garbage to Santa Marta.

Not damage natural or cultural assets in Gotsezhy. During the tour there is no mobile phone signal, so tell your family and friends that you will only be able to communicate with them once you return from your experience.

During the day the weather is hot and humid, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes, T-shirts and shorts for walking; In the afternoon hours there is a greater presence of mosquitoes and other insects, it is important to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts to carry out cultural activities.

Reservation Policies

To reserve this tour, a deposit per person is required, equivalent to 30% of the total value of the tour, through our web payment gateway, the remaining 70% must be paid at the Wiwa Tours office, the same day we leave for the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
The identity document is a fundamental requirement to reserve the Gotsezhy tour For nationals, a copy of the personal identification card or passport in case of being a foreigner. For the day we go out on the tour, it is not necessary to bring your identity document, at least bring a copy of it.
To cancel or modify a confirmed reservation, you must contact us 48 hours before the start of the Tour, during business hours.
