Lost City Trek Colombia

If you practice the Trekking and enjoy the most demanding challenges of this discipline, Lost City Trek 4 days is the best option to enjoy this wonderful journey, where you will meet fantastic and ancestral places.

You will make daily walks of approximately 5 to 7 hours, through paths marked by the steps of the Indigenous of the Sierra Nevada from Santa Marta, who still inhabit this place, you will have access to a native indigenous culture of the region.

Enjoy exotic landscapes typical of the tropical jungle of the Colombian Caribbean, where there is a great diversity of flora and fauna protected by our indigenous ancestors; live at night an immersion in the ancestral culture of the Wiwa and Kogui communities.

DEPARTURE TIME Please arrive at 8:15 AM to the indicated meeting point for an early departure at 8:30 AM.
RETURN TIME Approximately at 4:30 PM in the last day of the tour.

Lost City Trek – Colombia, Santa Marta


Day 1

We will start the tour at 8:30 am, of about 2 hours from the city of Santa Marta, in a 4 × 4 truck that will take us to the Mamey sector (Machete Pelao), where we will take lunch and then start the best Trek in South America, we start with a walk along trails of 7.6 km, until we reach the first camp Adán Cabin, in this rural community we will be 450 meters above sea level, here we will spend our first night and we will rest from this first day of demanding trekking, we recommend to receive instructions from the guide attentively, during the tour we will enjoy a crystal clear river where we will take a refreshing bath and we will be able to observe the great richness of the flora and fauna of the place. – Some people complete the Trekking in 3 hours, others in 5 hours; everything depends on your physical condition and weather conditions.


Day 2

We begin with a demanding walk of 14.7 km (approximately 10 hours), from the Adan Cabin to the Paraíso Teyuna Cabain, Indigenous Community, located at an altitude of 830 above sea level, here we will be very close to to The Lost City (Teyuna), a Sacred City of the Tayronas. During this tour we will pass close to the Indigenous Community of Mutanzhi, here we will appreciate the harmony that the indigenous people have with nature, we will also observe, a good part of the fauna and flora typical of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. In the afternoon we can relax and take a refreshing swim in a river of crystal clear waters. At night, the Indigenous guide will tell you more about The Lost City and its sacred significance for the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada, who will also share with you the history and customs of their community and the region.


Day 3

We start the day having breakfast very early and then leaving for The Lost City, during this tour of about 1 km to the sacred city, we will be climbing 1200 steps built by the ancient Tayronas, here we will be at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level and accompanied by the Indigenous Guide, we will make a tour to the different terraces and sacred sites, taking pictures, enjoying the magical moment, at approximately 11:00 am, we will return to the Paraíso Teyuna Cabin to have lunch and immediately organize the suitcase, to start with the Trek to return 9.6 km (5 hours approximately) to the Wiwa Cabin, an Indigenous community where we will rest and spend the night.


Day 4

On the last day of adventure we will start with breakfast, then continue walking the 12.7 km of coming back, until we reach the point where it all began, during the descending we will find rivers and waterfalls on the way for enjoying a refreshing swim , we will continue the descend to finally reach the Mamey, where we will have lunch and we will leave in the 4 × 4 vehicle, which will take you back to the city of Santa Marta where we will be arriving around 5:00 p.m. after having totally enjoyed an enriching and new experience in the magical Sierra Nevada from Santa Marta.

Important Information for the Trip to Lost City

During this Lost City Trek 4 days you must respect the privacy of the Indigenous. We must not enter into their rooms or take pictures of them or their belongings without first asking them permission or talking with the guide to indicate what the protocol to follow is.
Carry only the essentials, since weight is a determining factor when walking, make sure you are in good physical condition, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages the day before and take back with you all trash to Santa Marta.
Do not damage natural or cultural assets. In the Lost City and during the tour there is no mobile phone signal, so notify your family and friends that you can only get in touch with them once you return from your trekking experience.
During the day the weather is hot and humid, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes, shirts and walking shorts; during the night the temperature drops to 14 C approximately and there are a lot of mosquitoes and other insects, it is important to wear long pants and long sleeves shirts to sleep and to use insect repellent.

Reservation Policy.

To book this tour per person, a deposit of 20% of the total value of the tour is required, through our web payment gateway, the remaining 80% must be canceled at our Wiwa Tours office, the same day we leave for The Lost City.
As a fundamental requirement to book The Tour to Lost City, you must present your personal ID and passport in case of being a foreigner at our Wiwa Tour main office. It is not necessary to carry the identity document the day we leave for the tour. Just take at copy of it.
To cancel or modify a confirmed reservation, you must contact us 24 hours before the starting date of the Tour, during working hours.
Once The Lost City Tour begins, no refund of any kind will be made.

Nous avons choisi l’agence Wiwa tour car elle travaille avec des guides indigènes (wiwa, cogui…); c’est donc une manière d’intégrer ces communautés qui gèrent le parc de la sierra nevada ou est localisée la cuidad perdida.

Definitivamente Wiwa Tour es la única agencia con la que recomendaría hacer el tour hacia Ciudad Perdida! La experiencia no sólo se compone de paisajes naturales increíbles sino también de la valiosa historia y cultura indígena que es contada por sus propios partícipes, los guías de Wiwa Tour. Para poder valorar y preservar mejor el tesoro humano que son las culturas Wiwa, Kogui y demás, es necesario apoyar a esta empresa que se encarga de relacionar,de manera respetuosa, el mundo occidental con la cultura indígena de la sierra nevada de Santa Marta. Eliseo y Benjamín fueron nuestros guías y al mismo tiempo fueron nuestra familia durante esos cuatro días. Ellos cuidaron de nosotros y nos enseñaron sus costumbres y su historia. Muchas gracias a ellos dos por esta experiencia y a Wiwa Tour por mostrarnos a nosotros, los turistas, los tesoros escondidos que hubo durante muchos años en la sierra nevada de Santa Marta: la cultura indígena y esa maravillosa naturaleza. Ojalá sigamos respetando y cuidando esos tesoros entre todos! Por eso algunas recomendaciones tanto para los turistas como para la empresa: 1) hacerse cargo de su propia basura y recoger de vez en cuando la basura que se encuentre por el camino, 2) no sobreexplotar el turismo, evitando llevar cada vez más y más gente a hacer el tour en cortos lapsos de tiempo, 3) utilizar sólo elementos de aseo biodegradables incluyendo jabones, desodorantes, bloqueadores y repelentes. Con estas medidas, las generaciones actuales y futuras podrán seguir disfrutando de la misma calidad que tiene hoy en día esta experiencia única. Muchas gracias nuevamente y saludos!
